The Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters will trot out new import Courtney
Fells in a bid to stay in Governors’ Cup playoff contention when they
take on the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters on Wednesday at Cuneta
Astrodome.
Fells, fresh off an NBA Summer League stint with the Boston Celtics,
makes his debut at 7:30 p.m. following the opening match between Alaska
and Barako Bull at 5:15 p.m.
Talk ‘N Text (2-5) is mired at ninth place after losing three
straight matches, causing team management to press the panic button and
jettison offensive-minded import Tony Mitchell. The Tropang Texters
became the first and so far only team to replace their reinforcement in
the tournament.
They will take on a Rain or Shine squad (4-4) still smarting from a
controversial defeat to Barangay Ginebra San Miguel last Saturday.
The Elasto Painters yielded a 101-100 result on three free throws by
Mac Baracael on a late foul called by referee Nol Quilingen. Rain or
Shine put the game under protest, but were unable to beat the deadline,
resulting in the win standing for Ginebra.
In the first game, Barako Bull (4-4) tries to fortify its hold on one
of the top four spots when it battles Alaska (3-4) in a game between
two struggling teams.
After a promising start, Mike Singletary and Barako Bull have lost
three of their last four games, and they hope to arrest that skid
against the champions of the last conference.
The Aces themselves have a losing record after dropping their last
two games despite the brilliant play of import Wendell McKines, who has
caught fire in his last three games.
